Chino Burrowing Owl Preserve: Chino and The Hills Secrets Exposed

Welcome to Chino and The Hills Secrets Exposed. Hi my name is Thomas Ryan. Did you know there's a special place in Chino dedicated to the preservation of a unique species of owl? That's right, the Chino Burrowing Owl Preserve is located in the southwest corner of the College Park community. These 9 inch tall owls are not like most other owls who nest in trees. The burrowing owl nests underground, and this preserve is their home. In 2020, the Pomona Valley Audubon Society, in cooperation with So Cal Edison and volunteers, installed eight artificial burrows near the College Park housing development. The goal was to bring back a few of these fascinating birds, whose numbers have dwindled due to housing development overtaking much of their habitat. California has declared the burrowing owl a Species of Special Concern, making it all the more important to protect and preserve their habitat. The Chino Burrowing Owl Preserve is a symbol of our communities commitment to conserve and protect the natural world for future generations.
